FloridaFlipper you CAN interview AND be hired without the type. Come on man get up to speed

. Just kidding. If you get hired without the type you have 6 months to get it. After you get it you start class.
As far as this AirWillie dude goes, he's just yanking our chains. He doesn't know anything about SWA at all. Disregard him.

Sr., I was basically going by what people were saying that they heard at the seminar - that Southwest is way behind the hiring curve right now and they don't want to have to wait for you to get your type - Therefore, unless you have the type, you most likely won't get a call.
Just looking at the numbers (and by the way I got a D in statistics so I could be way off) - approximately 20% of people interviewed are hired. Of that 20%, it seems that most have a type. I'm hearing at least 75%. So, I'm guessing that the majority of those that DON'T have the type probably have some pretty strong internal recommendations - which I, unfortunately, don't have. So basically, I really don't expect to get a call until after I get the type.
What scares me is that I have known people with flight time that is well over the minimums AND with a type that have had their stuff on file for nearly a year without a call. But like other people have said, it is a bit of a gamble and you never know.
As far as Willie goes, I used to know a guy just like him (maybe it is him) who absolutely hates SWA and blames them for the destruction of the legacy carriers and the old airline lifestyle and career in general. I guess that you're always going to have a few people like that. I've heard those types of rantings before, and they never really made that much sense to me. He's not going to scare me off.
Nice boat, by the way...
