"Hey Bruce, where did you get based ?"
Hi Tony:
SKW contacted me with a May E120 class date when I was in ground school for Mesa.
I was assigned to DEN for one bid period, then moved to PHX at the end of June. I am on reserve, but Mesa has approved 12 hour call-out. I sit in San Diego unless they need me to fly. It is working out really well, they plan ahead more with long call. I have already been given two 4 day trips, the first starts tomorrow. So far it looks like I will be able to get by without a PHX crashpad. There are 8-10 pilots coming along behind me in seniority at PHX, so I should hold a line once they are done with IOE.
I begin upgrade training on September 3. It is a pretty scary thought, but a couple of wise airline vets told me never to pass up an upgrade opportunity. All I can do is study my butt off in the meantime and try my best to rise to the occasion.
Choosing an airline, if you are lucky enough to have a choice, is a roll of the dice. For me it came down to;
- The easiest possible commute to SAN. (It seemed like years before I would hold SAN with SKW).
- I really wanted to fly the Dash.
- Upgrades and improvements in seniority seemed as if they would happen more quickly with Mesa.
So far it has been a blast. I am impressed by the skill and professionalism of everyone I have flown with. The Dash community is close-knit and the flying is some of the coolest in the airline industry.
Take Care,
Bruce Morey
