The latter sounds pretty cool.

I am DEFINITELY getting furloughed in 4-5 months anyway. There is no way around it. At my experience level, no one is hiring. I could go back to flight instruction, and I wouldn't have any problem with that, except for the lack of a quality paycheck. So, whether I like it or not, I am being forced out of professional aviation before long. I might just take it as an opportunity to move on with a different path....

Ok, we got the sim scars squared away. Can the Mrs. keep you on your feet while you start your own business now? Why wait? So your furloughed, no airline will hold that against you, take the opportunity to work a good business NOW as you describe and then you can take a recall if you choose or maybe just long enough to get the next step and either move on to bigger iron or quit and just keep your business going as you see fit. An accountant who is an airline pilot could give you an edge competing for our tax returns, small business accounting like FBO's, Maintenance shops etc. Personally, like doing business with pilots who have their own business'. You know the mindset, etc. Maybe a good time to start and then decide later after the recall.
Good luck
