I worked on the line pumping fuel and washing/towing airplanes before and after I flew for a living. I think all pilots should be required to do a tour on the ramp in all seasons.
You will be nice to the ramp for the rest of your life if you work the ramp. And you can learn a lot from crawling around underneath (cleaning) the things, too.
