Flames make for an intense emotional experience. I saw a wingman starting an F15 once will a tailpipe fire..hadn't seen that before and all saw was flames pouring out of the back end of the jet. I tried to say in my best fighter voice "Hey TWO...looks like you've got a fire in the aft section of the jet...might want to egress and get out there there".

Somehow, however, it came out...

"uh.....um.....dude......uh....FIRE! There's FIRE back on the back of your JET! GET OUT OF THERE!" For some reason, (and I had already been in combat before), seeing your bros jet BURNING is a bit compelling and my mind sort of froze for several potatoes. I've been a little less critical of guys who have had "girl voices" on the radio after a major problem since then...

Sounds like that crew did a magnificient job. Kudos to all of them...
