Sorry to hear all the sad news. Everthing we do has risk the best you can do is to make sure you know your limits with things. However that being said accidents always happen and the sad truth is the older we get the more we see things like this. Lost friends in crashes and on 9/11. Remember the goood times you had with them and look to the future.
