Not everyone is cut out for the job. I put the career first in my life and certainly have no regrets. Would do it over 100 times even if I was only half as successful. It's all a personal choice. If one is finding that the need to be home every night overrides the career, then one should seek something else. If one needs to be home every night, then being a pilot is a bad career choice.
This just about explains it all and how can you argue with that? Some of us work to live and others live to work.
