The jumpseat should exist to get pilots to and from home and work on their own time (commuting).
You are right. But when you are standing there staring down the jet bridge at a full airplane, scheduling won't answer the damn phone, and its 3 minutes from push, and that is the only way to make it back on the last day of a trip, I'll take the damn jump seat. And since it is my company metal......
You gotta do what you gotta do using the tools that YOU have control over.
