If I were a pilot, I would rather help the company out for a year and keep my job than force the campany to raise fares. If passengers don't get reasonable fares at my company, they will go elsewhere. I would choose to keep making the same amout of money for one more year so that low fares would attract more paying passengers. A company only has a certain amount of money to pay their employees. If the payroll exceeds that amount, someone is going to have to go. I would rather bear with the company for one year making the same amount of money and know that I still have a paying job.
But then again, I am not a pilot.............yet.
Another thing, I don't like unions. I believe they work too hard at driving up wages. This creates a problem for a company because if the money for wages is not there, its not there. I would rather deal directly with the company. I know that if I do my job well, productivity and profits will increase. I believe that a worker should be paid based on how much revenue they help bring to the company. If profits increase, I get a pay increase. If a worker is lazy and does not do their share of the work, they need to go find a job somewhere else.
These are just my thoughts.
p.s. I do not mean to offend anyone. If you would like to share with me how your union operates, I would be glad to expand my knowledge of union operations.
