Why rush everything?, if you are late and your turn takes 30 min, well take the 30 mins. Why rush? (unless last leg off course). Start writting stuff up. Don't wait till you go back to the hub. No more favors. Don't ever leave without comissary or lav service. If they are slow, well.....they are slow not your problem, it's even a different department than yours (Ground Ops). If there's no gate agent, or they haven't finished unloading the valet checked bags at outstations, don't open the door. Sometimes they push you to open the door, so you block in, and then take forever to unload the valet checked bags and attach the jetbridge. That ain't right. Also, very important, don't push without numbers, period. Once you have numbers, you can push. Once you push complete after start and taxi checklist before taxi (I think that's about to change with the new checklist). Remember, if your FO is busy he/she won't be much of a help taxing, think about runway incursions, etc.....
Also, 300 lbs of contingency???? That's b.s. less than 500 shouldn't be acceptable. Get more fuel please....
Having said that, if it's the last leg or you are trying to catch you commute or something, well obviously go for it. This is the way the pilot group should be thinking now: ME, ME, ME, ME and only ME.
Oh, yes, because pilots are world renowned for thinking of everyone but themselves....
