If I came across that, and if it was hard for you, then upon landing I will definitly have to swap hands on landing. Right hand on yoke for cross wind correction while my left hand brings on the reversers.
First, I applaud your courage and resolve. That truly is a horrible accident.
The reverse thrust locking mechanism is based off a solenoid switch. It is a protection in the airplane that won't allow reverse thrust to be added until the cascade doors are deployed. To deploy reverse thrust, you pull on the thrust levers to the gate, wait a second or two, and then the locks release and you can pull back all the way.
Good luck.
