You won't be the only one. There's plenty of current DL guys who use their's as a rollerboard topper.
Any news, rumors, guesses on the post-merger fleet? My guess (based only on a few rumblings I've heard and mostly my speculation) is that the company sells the early 787-8 delivery slots back to BA at a nice profit to help them catch up on delayed orders and uses the delay compensation to cut a deal on 777-300s, 777LRs, and 737s and uses NW's current 787 options on the eventual 787-9. I think they really want the 787-9 and may not want to have a relatively small fleet of -8s. 777-300s, LRs replace the 74s fairly quickly since they are much less thirsty. I hope I'm wrong but on the other hand getting a lot of new 777s quickly may work out well for all of us. Cheers.
