I remember doing my chamber retread at Little Rock several years ago. This was during Gen. McPeak's reign. We were getting the old "lean mean fighting machine" drill. The instructor, on a break, pulled out some videos of G-load pilot testing. The instructor was the fire plug solid type that was all muscle. He had commented about the use of the body fat testing and the inconsistencies of fit standards. In the video, they were showing G tolerance vs. body type. The thin runners were early outs, but the short stocky guys pulled higher numbers. One of the last clips was of the instructor pulling some of the highest numbers recorded at Wright-Patterson.
Everybody likes the lines of the greyhound, but its the stocky pug that does the work!
That is great if you are a F-16 driver, but for the rest of us, it is better (healthier) to be trim and in good cardiovascular shape, with decent muscle tone.
