We got a message yesterday from the mother ship. They are still saying Boston will close and JFK will be populated in three waves over Nov, Dec and Jan. AA wants us to do an additional 1700 hrs of flying in NY, and because of this we will be getting 135s out of storage. A new flow plan came out the other day and I think there is another vacancy bid coming out soon to get more crews to NY for the additional flying.
I think the additional flying is really good and I hope it shows the company that maybe planning to hack off all that flying wasn't a great idea. I'm hoping that this JFK thing blows up on management and really makes them look stupid. Of course if that happens it'll be someone else's fault.
What the company hasn't said publicly yet is that they don't have the space at LGA for the extra airplanes that are no longer being parked. Even if they leave spares in BOS for overnights, and use the hardstands they don't have enough space for the extra planes with 20 extra departures per day at LGA. Parking them at JFK isn't an option since they did not get a codomicile agreement, which means any bussing crews of over to get a plane is part of their duty day, and by contract they have to return them to LGA at the end of the trip... so leaving spares at JFK doesn't help. Look for Boston to stay open as a crew base until May, when the extra hours of flying sent back from mothership will either be extended or not.
