You mentioned wages 3 times in your post. If wages are involved, then you are speaking of commercial aviation.

General aviation is what I love. If I never flew an airliner again, I'd be alright, so long as I could fly SOMETHING. However, this is in the context of making your money elsewhere and flying for fun such that you don't rely on it to pay the bills.
