That is the understatement of the year.
If we signed the contract on schedule next month, and the company goes into bankruptcy right afterward, more than likely the Judge will not allow the company to throw out the contract. The company has to reasonably show that the contract caused them to file for bankruptcy, and that wouldn't be the case here.
The judge will not throw out the current agreement, plus in bankruptcy you retain the right strike if a change in made during section 6 negotiations.
I personally think it's a good thing for all of us, it brings us up fairly close to the regional standard, and made a lot of headway for us. When we negotiate on the next contract in 2 years, we'll get even more and hopefully stay with the other regionals or surpass them. Lets try to keep our pilots positive here.
This band aide on the current deal brings Mesa nowhere even close to an industry standard contract package. Everything achieved is given away in concessions like PBS and no fixed min guarantee for line holders.
Just the thought of currently having the worst pay scales in the industry and then agreeing to a 2-year pay scale freeze with the exception of a very small FO rate hike 2 years from now ought to lower the reputation of the MAG pilot group lower than it has ever been (if that is even possible). Its deplorable that the MEC is even advertising "modest pay increases" when there are no changes to the pay scales.
