Passports are no longer required by TSA. Prior to September of '07 passports were required by TSA because pictures were not yet required. After pictures became required TSA dropped the passport requirement. Unfortunately, most carriers had incorporated the passport requirement into their Ops Specs, which makes passports required by the FAA. In some cases the passports are not in the Ops Specs, but because the info is given in the screen data the agents assume it is required.
Thanks that answers that question. I jumped on Virgin and when I pulled out my passport they said they didn't need to see that. I've also noticed some UAL and AS agents don't look at my passport anymore. AS does enter your pilot information though. They had an issue earlier this year with someone not in CASS riding up front.
