I think the reason Deltoyed pilots ask for it is because they can't land with a cross wind. Because on the ship, it was always pointed into the wind.
actually, I think its been answered fairly well. There are additives and limitations (x-wind, t-wind) to consider that require knowing what the winds are if you want to do it right...or you can do it like you do it.
