It actually isn't a horrible program, it works very well. I use it with a Treo 700w, screen is small but you manage. You have to have a phone with a touchscreen and Windows Mobile or Palm OS.
Another option is to get a super cheap PDA on Ebay and use it for that purpose and just keep it in your flight bag. The big screen will make it super easy to enter your times.
I'd also say having APDL along with Logbook Pro is the only way to go. I copy my time from my phone to the computer to my paper logbook.
