Barring $150+/barrel oil prices, the -9s will be parked when the "C" series aircraft replace them starting in 2012, so that won't factor into any potential furloughing.

The last I heard DAL was hiring 150, maybe more, and NWA was on schedule to hire about 450. I hope it holds up.
