I had a bad experiance with some old ammo once...

I had several old Shotgun shells, you know the paper ones, well I had never shot one, and I had the bright Idea to load one up in my old single shot and pop it off... Well, Im not a totall idiot, so I did consult my father and he said it should be just fine.... Long and short of it... I pull the trigger, I here the evil click of a miss fire... I pull the shotgun off of my should and BOOM! the butt jumps up and busts my nose...

Later on, my I was informed that he forgot to mention their could be a delay... Nice huh? Never again!
that was a funny story....reminds of one:

I was shooting with a SF guy who recently got back from overseas... he was shooting an older Ruger semi-auto, the ammo was pretty old 9mm.. I thought I heard a faint "pop" from his pistol, but figured that since he was SF he'd know what he was doing and so I didn't really think twice about it... I looked over saw him rack the slide chamber ejecting the case, chambering another round... before I could think to say anything he pulled the trigger on the next round.... luckily we heard just a faint "pop" again.... he was a little agitated at the weapon, so we took it apart.......and sure enough two (!) squib rounds were in the barrel... the ammo in the magazine (that had been there for at least 6 years) had a green film around the cap....that was a very, very lucky day.
