I disagree. CA pay is a pretty good increase over FO pay(if your at a decent regional). I upgraded at XJT from a relatively senior FO position to go to Reserve CA and my time at home was almost the same and the pay was much better. Also if i hadnt taken that upgrade when i did i likely wouldnt be where i am now.

Alot of it, if not most of it, as far as career advancement goes, is luck and timing. I spent 3 years at XJT before i moved on, so for me the sacrifice from leaving my FO position to a Reserve CA was well worth it not to mention the pay increase was very nice.

Your right about the SO, mortgage, kids, etc. Once that stuff becomes a factor, what was once decent money becomes not so decent money
