CRJ200,

If you are interested in heavy metal, again the Air Force is still the best opportunity. Get a degree, pursue civilian flying, and look into the air national guard...that is one of the best kept secrets in aviation because you join a particular squadron that flies a certain aircraft type, so you get to choose your aircraft. If you want fly fighters, join a F-16 or 15 squadron, heavies go for C-5, C-17, C-130. No risk of helicopters on this route.

Also you can get a regional job and accrue seniority at the airline while doing guard training (federal law). This allows you to accumulate 121 experience while you are punching the military ticket...you will be golden for the major airlines at an early age!
