Standup is a shift that starts around dinner time or later, and ends after sunrise the following morning with no legal rest. The good ones consist of one leg out, go to a hotel, get 4-6 hours sleep, one leg back home and you're done. I used to do these all the time, pretty good for QOL. Bad standups involve 3-5 legs starting at 1800 and ending at around 0800. You might get a chance to take a nap in your cockpit seat during a 1-2 hour sit in the wee hours...Mesa is famous for these, and they suck, period.

A Redeye is usually a one or two leg trip flown by a major airline, usually transcontinental from west to east. This are not great, but since you only have to turn the plane once or twice it's not as bad.

The trains in chicago are great, you don't need a car at all, and I'm 98% sure they run all hours.
