-One of my best friends flies A320's for United Airlines. She had a Fedex jumpseater in the cockpit last week, and he said that Fedex would furlough for sure in 2009. Since I'm not Fred Smith, I told her that we have two aircraft-types coming into the company, and the training ramp-up for these two [757 and 777] would probably allow Orlando Rosado the ability to convince the "bean-counters" [that probably want a furlough] that it would be cheaper to train people once rather than three times if a bunch of pilots decided to change their bids. They've come to the conclusion that it is cheaper to sit on the current situation and let the outside events direct their work.
