Complex only counts for your commercial checkride and for club insurance mins.

After all, regional jets and larger airliners are NOT complex airplanes!

It is probably a good idea to do as much of your training in a twin (as PIC) as possible, if you can afford it. Cheaper to do it in training then to wind up as a 1500/10 CFI and have to go buy 90 hours to meet airline mins.
