One CA tried to manage my rest period (and the FA's) re. alcohol. HIS policy (applied to all crew members) was 16 hours or therabouts (company policy = 8 hours). I took him aside and explained that my hourly rate was $40...if he wanted to me live the 14 hour overnight on his terms he would need to open his wallet and fork over 28 crisp $20 bills.
He sputtered some crap about PIC authority and told him to call the CP (whom I know) and have the CP call me if needed. End of story
That's (sort of) hilarious. I had a captain try the same thing once....it was a long four day trip. He's actually sort of a nice guy, but unfortunately has developed a reputation that makes people dread flying with him. Not sure what base you are in, fortunately most people in DEN are fairly laid-back.
