FedEx starts overnight India-China link
FEDEX Express has launched the first daily overnight express delivery link between India and China.
The flight is part of the company’s new eastbound around-the-world route – connecting Europe, India, China and Japan with the FedEx US hub in Memphis – that will provide unprecedented access to and from the world’s largest markets.
Using a wide-bodied MD-11 freighter, FedEx intends to double current capacity between Europe and Asia with the addition of 850,000 lbs per week, it said in a statement.
“China and India can together reshape the world’s economy.
“Their economic emergence will eventually lift them to a leadership role in global business.

“Expanding trade between these two markets and the rest of the world is fuelling the need for value-added logistics services,” said FedEx Express, Asia Pacific president David L Cunningham Jr.
Last year, China became India’s second-largest trading partner, while India emerged as one of China’s top 10 Asian trading partners for the first time.
Bilateral trade between the two nations is expected to exceed US$20bil in 2008.
The new eastbound route includes a direct point-to-point connection between the Yangtze River Delta and Tokyo, Japan, extending cut-off times for cities in eastern China by up to one day.
It also increases capacity from China and Japan to North America.
Earlier this year, FedEx Express launched a westbound around-the-world route, which included the express air cargo industry’s first direct flight from mainland China to Europe from Shanghai to Frankfurt.
