After being in the airlines since late 2000 and recently being furloughed, I decided to try to find a "regular" job. I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but I would simply put on the resume that you were a pilot. If they can't figure out what that means I'm not so sure I would want that person to be in charge of signing my paycheck.
