They dont tell you your schedule until the night before. So like for example I was out one Monday night around 8 pm, called this 1-800 number to find out I had o be at work at 4 am. That in my view is not professional. This is not my first job. I have been a police officer, school teacher and other jobs. But this is soooo unprofessional its crazy. Is it just the schedule? I worked at a 121 that did that. We bid for a schedule, but trying to bid for certain flights was a futile effort, you didn't know where you were going until the night before. It sounds like you're home every evening, so while frustrating, it could be worse.
I knew I MIGHT be working on Christmas and Christmas Eve. Got called at 4pm for a 6pm flight. On Christmas Day, that was just as I was walking out the door for Christmas Dinner. So microwave pizza it was!
Hate to say it, but this industry will throw you some curve balls. You do it because you enjoy it, not because you like the schedule or the money.
That comes much later, if ever...
