I can tell you that, from the majority of pilots I've met at Delta, unlike JP, they will not judge an entire pilot group based on the actions of one pilot.
I can't think of a captain I've flown with here who as ever thought twice about letting a jumpseater on.
My experience is that the guys who shout the loudest on the internet, cower the fastest in person. I can pretty much assure you that if JP was trying to jumpseat home or to work on a mainline aircraft, it would be a completely different song and dance when he walks up to the cockpit.
I, for one, would rather offer and give a ride to someone like JP, then bump a decent, normal ASA pilot because of people like JP.
Every group has one, and they only gain any clout if you acknowledge them.
