In my army days we could drink in uniform, at the mess hall. When on leave we would ride around town in uniform going out, dinner, drinks etc... As long as we weren't making a fool of ourselves it was OK.
Alcohol is not the problem it is the people not respecting it. Remember those Trans States Pilots? That was unprofessonal. If they were in Uniform i very much doubt that anything like that would have ever happened.
I couldn't agree more. I've seen a few Doctors enjoying a beer or wine in between shifts at the hosptial. They don't even have laws or rules that mandate a certain number of hours they can't drink before going to work. They just can't show up intoxicated. Imagine being treated like a professional? Airlines, the FAA, and our industry are spring loaded to overreact because of the few people in this industry who are not in control and are not responsible.
