When I look at their "award," all I can think of is all of the training that will be needed in the other direction when they get their 777's and that the people who can get back to their original equipment requiring the least amount of training probably won't even have recall rights, because if they did what would be the point of recalling them within 180 days or even displacing them in the first place? I won't even get into the whole notion of voluntary displacing off of an aircraft to bump someone else off of another aircraft so they can bump someone else....

What a waste. The bottom line is that their system is just plain dumb.

It really is.

It seems a waste because you don't understand it. The staffing is already in place for the 777s, via the last bid back in November. The displacements are because the MD88 right seat has been short staffed for the past few months via an LOA with the company. They wanted to hire in order to fill that void, as it is the cheapest way to do so for the 88 right seat. Apparently the economy calls for stagnation, though. It will be interesting to see what actually happens when the full staffing of NWA is required via contract what they will do then.
