We had a FedEx caravan go down about a 1.5 mile hike and about 800 of elevation from my house in Steamboat a few years back. It happened to be on my birthday (which was also on Cinco de Mayo that year.
). The local ramp told me that they were able to recover a large portion of the freight, including one, apparently, very expensive shipment, from the pancaked wreckage. That pilot did not survive.
