Call it what you want but there's no reason to pay $100k+ for flight training not even to get your CFI. Go to a local FBO and get it all done for well under half that.
That pretty much is exactly what he should have done as well as many other pilots or pilot candidates, why spend sooooooooo much more money than what you would spend going to your local flight school and working your way through the ratings.
