So today I'm pondering PPAS, and I'm reminded that Cost Factor is a balance between minimum cost and minimum time; minimum cost of course being a compromise between fuel (fly slow to save money) and crew (fly fast to save money).
So here's Comair flying slow to save Delta fuel costs, but our so-called "high crew costs" are magnified by our long block times.
Meanwhile CHQ, Mesa, and the rest of DCI are screaming along at .84, blowing Delta's fuel budget out the tailpipe and only saving pennies on crew costs with their 3rd year CAs and 1st year FOs.
Shouldn't Comair be flying fast and the other guys be flying slow?
