Isn't the fuel on the release figured with PPAS data? Unless ATC requests another speed from you, isn't this enough reason to fly the appropriate PPAS speed... especially on longer legs? I'm not saying it saves money or it doesn't, but it seems like a little CYA is in store for those following PPAS.
I'm not sure that is true - maybe a dispatcher can chime in.
I think we have a management conflict [understatement]. One part of manglement wants us to save money and be fuel effiecient. The other part wants us to have great operational numbers, to be on time. My opinion? People don't buy jets to go slow.
