While I do agree that working the ramp is great experience I do not feel that it will achieve any shortcuts. The experience on the ramp will certainly give you a perspective that you would otherwise not get - learn the business and operations as well as gain an understanding and compassion for what the job of a ramper entails. This will help you with teamwork when you do land that pilot gig.
What it won't do is open an otherwise closed door - you still must be competitive with regard to minimums. Whatever you do....stay flying.
