This is true of the American strike, the strike at Northwest was allowed. This largely had to do w/ funding on the part of ALPA for then President Clinton, don't know if he got much from APA. (NW was represented by ALPA/AFL-CIO). This was one of the reasons there was a bit of a push at the time to get ALPA on the property at American so a more competitive contract (think Delta/United...both ALPA) could be negotiated.
The questions I would be asking:
Did President Obama receive funding directly from ALPA?
Is your airline represented by ALPA or not?
Politicians are more likely to reward those who donated to their campaigns.
