The airlines have a fantastic safety rating. Tell the public that you are tired and I am sure that they will feel sorry for you but they really do not care so long at there are not crashed airliners in everyone's back yard and ticket prices do not go up.

You are not there to see what the rest of us see. Your simplistic rationale only works with passengers whom do not care (and that's getting smaller by the day), not employees.
Again, if they knew and saw what we see, it would be different. Even when speaking to classes or groups, I see the mindset go from price to safety in a flash.
