...and while I'm at it...

One thing I find pretty appalling here is the “us versus them” atmosphere. It exists at most places but I think it’s more prevalent here. Frankly, I don’t blame any IPA’er for that because I’ve heard numerous horror stories on how our pilots were treated in the past and I understand why everyone is so deeply suspicious and unwilling to help out.

Just imagine if we could take the top brass of our company and the top union figures and lock them all in one room; then we'd ask them to work out their differences before we unlock the door again. The premise would be – whatever happened in the past is history; from now on both sides shall respect each other and now we will work together to protect our future…

IF the company came to the union and said – “give us ideas on how we can save 54 million (or whatever number) and it the ideas are feasible we honestly promise we’ll give it a try. IF we can save that money, not only will we stop talking about furloughs - heck we might even throw in free internet at every hotel you all are staying at.”
You’d be surprised what we could achieve as a group.

For example, let’s say we could get a small incentive for canceling hotel rooms we don’t use; maybe 25% of the price or so? How about a “hotel bank” - like a ticket bank where we could accumulate our “hotel dollars.” In other words, if a pilot doesn’t need the hotel room let him/her cancel it, keep a few dollars in his/her bank and you’ll see thousands of dollars in savings every month.

Seriously, if the atmosphere wasn’t as poisonous as it is and the company chose to work with us as team there is no telling how far we could reach…

I know, you may say I am a dreamer….
UPS doesn't care what we think. They probably don't care what the managers think either.
