FedEx has reduced the monthly line guarantee to 48 in a 4 week month, and 60 in a 5 week month by invoking a specific clause in our contract related to "preventing or delaying a furlough."

They are still building the lines substantially above that minimum now, but have invoked the clause in the contract that allows the minimum guarantee to be lowered to 48/60 - thus relieving the company of the obligation to buy up lines to the previous minimums of 68/85.

Our union has filed a grievance regarding the company's invoking of this clause of our contract - citing the clause was not meant to be used merely to save the company money, but only to "prevent or delay a furlough" - which the company says they have no intention/plans to do (furlough.)

There's a million threads on this forum about this subject. The disputed contract section is 4.A.2.b. - do a search on that and you'll find plenty of details.

Not sure what the UPS situation is.
