The 50 seat RJ is a financial submarine with oil over $50 per barrel. The only way regionals can do it cheaper is to get bigger aircraft (100+ seats).

If this happens management will constantly move flying to the cheapest regional and pilots will have to chase after jobs. The legacy carriers will be cut in half and the good flying jobs will be gone.
