The owners of AWAC want to purchase more aircraft (CRJ-700's or -900's) and expand the flying, but it's just not gonna happen when the economy is in the gutter and airlines are cutting back on their regional flying.
That carrot has been dangled LONG before you ever got to Whiskey, my friend...I was told the exact same thing in my Jan 2006 newhire class.
The Amigos have had opportunities to expand flying. They've also had their chances in the past to get larger RJs, but they declined. Hell, there were rumors of a IAD base for United flying CR7s right until I left in Nov 07!
For my good friends & colleagues still there I hope you are right...but past precedence has shown exactly ZERO desire to grow unless the contract is 1. long-term, 2. highly profitable, and 3. low-risk...and there haven't been many regional lift agreements the last 2-3 years fitting that mold.
