Skiutah, I do have the type rating. Don't sweat the cost, if you are serious about SWA that is, think about it as your higher education. I was hung up on the money for a little while, but then I realized it's costing a small fortune to put my wife through law school, so if you look at the cost in terms of follow on education it's not so bad. Of course I could be singing a different tune if I don't make the cut. Hope it all works out for you.
Remember that a 737 type with NO operational experience will raise serious red flags with any other airlines you apply to...
1) SWA was your first choice.
2) You obviously failed that interview.
3) If SWA wouldn't hire you, why should XYZ airline?
4) If they do hire you, how long before you quit to go work for your dream company (SWA)?
I won't get the type until it is obviously my last resort.
