It isn't mandatory and you still keep your health and flight benefits. If you are a commuter and have a second job why not you get 21+ days off during the summer months.
You can keep the negative attitude but I am glad to see a pilot group helping out the junior guys trying to do everything they can to keep as many people employed as possible.
