I know there was an engagement between 2 F-14s and about 6 Soviet F-5s somewhere over the Indian Ocean circa 1986. One of the F-14s took them on by himself while the other disengaged. Fortunately the second F-14 re-engaged and saved the day. I saw a documentary on it when I was younger and it really affected me!
