Incident: World Airways MD11 at East Midlands on Apr 8th 2009, wing tip strike on landing

A World Airways McDonnell Douglas MD-11 freighter on behalf of Lufthansa Cargo, registration N275WA performing flight LH-8284 from Brussels (Belgium) to East Midlands,EN (UK) and further on to New York JFK,NY (USA), struck the ground with a wing while landing on runway 27 in heavy weather around 2am local (01:00Z). The airplane stopped safely.
The airplane is currently on the ground awaiting repairs and is scheduled to be ferried to Paris CDG later this week. Damage to at least one winglet is confirmed.
A replacement Lufthansa MD-11 registration D-ALCR resumed the flight to New York.
World Airways spokesman Steve Forsyth confirmed, that the airplane had a wing tip strike and is being held for repairs, but being out of office this (easter) week he couldn't provide further details.
The AAIB said, they are aware of the incident, however are not going to investigate the incident.
