The capital markets and lending are in shambles. This isn't NPR and CNN hype. This is the worst thing to happen since 1929.
UPS has survived for over 100 years because they react to the current and anticipated business cycle and environment. Its not a socialist jobs program. We know how those "strategies" worked out (Cuba,USSR,Peoples Rep.China...)
In about 3 years, the current over 60 guys will be gone, UPS will be growing and stronger. The weak will have died and/or been eaten.

I fail to see what any of that has to do with UPS' reluctance to grant voluntary leaves, early retirements, line sharing, etc; or their unprecedented desire for contract concessions while being profitable.
