Hi!

I am flying in Africa, and my buddy is China.

If you are in the US and applying from there, U need a type rating, normally 500 hrs in the airframe, etc.

BUT, if you are HERE, then you can walk in and there ARE jobs. They will not take much notice of you in the US unless you are ready to go (I saw two jobs that needed someone in TWO DAYS! and some others that were very short notice). They don't want to pay to train someone who will show up and leave in a couple of days because there is no McDonalds down the street.

BUT, if you are HERE, and you walk in, they will take you much more seriously. We have basically received two job offers in two days for two different places, just by chance...."Hey, are you one of the guys flying that DC-9? Hi. I'm the ____________ for Airline X, and we are looking for guys now if you're interested."

Precision Air in Dar-es-Salaam needs Capts and FOs on the ATRs (and maybe the 737s) and Jetlink (NBO) needs guys on all their aircraft.

My buddy in China says the same: If you're THERE, there are jobs.

PS-So far, I am liking it. Being away from my family is crap, but the rest is reasonable.
